  • And I don’t know a single professional artist advocating for artstyles to be copyright protected, that would be both ridiculous and dangerous, and we know it.

  • Also, please please please do a little background check into people claiming anti-AI advocates seek to destroy fanart, and consider why it might benefit them to make you think so 😅

One more time: Fanart is safe because companies want it safe. Existing laws allow them to take it down, they just don’t want to. This is NOT about fanart, and never was about fanart. This will NOT affect fanart. Adobe is NOT our ally and we’re well aware of it.

  • Copyright holders can already take down your fanart. They generally DON’T WANT TO! Fanart benefits them too. Profiting off of it is already illegal but copyright holders often choose to look past that too.

Anti-AI fight has NEVER been about fanart and will NEVER be about fanart.

Adobe threw a red herring there with the art styles thing, knowing exactly this would happen. They’re NOT our ally, and that’s NOT what artists want.

This is about our LIVELIHOODS, not fanart. Please.

We’ve been shouting at the anti ai people for months if not a year or two at this point that the end goal is for Adobe to have their perfectly functional “ethically copyrighted” AI, all other big companies get theirs, and then they use the copyright system to delete the idea of fanart and transformative works from society. They never needed your art! They had their own in great big vaults all legally bought and owned.

I fucking told you guys. If this passes and you act surprised and were also anti ai art I’m hitting you with a brick. This is the entirely foreseeable outcome of the company you keep and the policies you espoused. Now that Adobe is saying we need to copyright art styles maybe you should step back and take a look at what side you’re on, since every big company seems to be chomping at the bit to enshrine your stated ideology into law. Do you really think this is a broken clock right twice a day moment? It’s ADOBE “we will make you pay for photoshop five times a month” the company.

Fuck. God damnit. Fuck. I’m so mad. WE TOLD YOU THIS WOULD HAPPEN. SEVERAL TIMES.

    Fuck.

  • Y'all.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but copyright holders are already perfectly equipped to take down fanart under existing laws. They just actively choose not to, because fanart generally benefits them. A lot.

This is a complete red herring Adobe is throwing at us, and you’re falling right in their trap by buying this. Adobe is not our ally, we’re well aware.

This is NOT about fandom and fanart. Never was.

This is about preserving our livelihoods and making sure a ‘professional artist’ continues to exist. It’s a very serious discussion and an existential threat to a lot of us. Please keep that in mind.

Fanart is NOT in danger. Come on.
